Instagram Username Checker
Check if an Instagram handle is available — live, free, no signup.
5 rules for picking a great Instagram handle
- Shorter wins: 6-15 chars are easiest to remember and type.
- Minimise dots and underscores: brandnameofficial beats brand_name_official; brandname.co is fine.
- Match across platforms: lock the same handle on TikTok, X, YouTube too (use Namechk to check in bulk).
- Numbers are a last resort: brand123 looks like a fake account. Suffixes like brandhq, brandco, brandstudio inspire more trust.
- Pronounceable: if you can\'t say it out loud, it won\'t spread word-of-mouth.
Frequently asked questions
How accurate is the result?⌄
Very — we query Instagram's public profile endpoint directly. If we say "available", that handle is not registered at the moment of the check. Register within 1-2 minutes to be safe (someone else could grab it).
Why does some username return an "invalid format" error?⌄
Instagram rejects certain patterns — reserved words ("admin", "instagram"), blocked patterns, etc. That means the handle isn't taken; it's actually unregisterable.
What are the username rules?⌄
1-30 chars, ASCII letters (any case), digits, dot (.) and underscore (_). No spaces, hyphens or emojis. Reserved words and Instagram-blocked patterns are also rejected.
Can I bulk-check multiple usernames at once?⌄
Currently one at a time, with a 20-per-minute rate limit (anti-abuse). Plenty for working through a shortlist of brand candidates.
