Best time to post — myth vs. reality
Throughout the 2010s, "9–11 AM weekdays" was treated as an absolute truth among social marketers. It is no longer true in 2025.Smartphone infinite-scroll, algorithm-driven feeds, and the rise of short-form video completely changed feed rhythm. Optimal posting times now split sharply by industry and audience geography.
Why generic advice fails
There is no universal time. B2B SaaS viewers scroll at lunch and post-work. E-commerce viewers explode on weekend brunch. Gaming peaks on Friday nights. This tool gives you a 12-industry × 3-platform matrix so you get a recommendation calibrated to your situation.
Why consistency beats hitting the "optimal" hour
A 2024 Meta engineering memo on "predictable creator bonus" revealed that accounts posting at the same day-of-week and hour every week get classified as "reliable" and earn an ~18% reach boost. So picking 2–3 of the recommended windows and locking them in is far stronger than constantly chasing the "absolute best" slot.
Limits of this tool
Benchmark data is an industry average, not as accurate as your own historical Insights. If you have an Instagram Business account, also check Insights → Audience → Most Active Times. Treat this tool as a starting point.
Frequently asked questions
Where does this data come from?⌄
Synthesised from the 2025 Sprout Social, Hootsuite and Later annual posting-time benchmark reports. All times are normalised to the viewer's local time. Refreshed annually.
Should I pick my audience's timezone or my own?⌄
Your audience's. Feeds are sorted by "is this fresh for the recipient", not by where the creator is. If you're in Seoul but 70% of your viewers are in the US, pick EST.
Do these recommendations change a lot?⌄
No — we refresh once a year in January. Posting consistency (same days, same times every week) is itself an algorithm signal, so changing your schedule constantly hurts more than it helps.
Can't I post outside the recommended windows?⌄
Of course. The recommendations are the strongest windows, not the only ones. A consistent weekly schedule (e.g. every Tue/Thu/Sat evening) matters more to the algorithm than chasing a "perfect" time.
Are the best times for Shorts the same as for long-form?⌄
Shorts perform best 1–2 hours later than long-form (deeper into evening prime time). The YouTube times here are tuned for long-form; for Shorts, push them back ~1 hour.
